ARRIVAL IN FRANCE 2ND JUNE 2014
Following the night crossing from Portsmouth we arrive in France and dock at 0830 local time. The DFDS Seven Sisters Ferry has provided us with a comfortable cabin and we are fresh to start the 1 1/2 hour drive from L'Harve to CAEN.
The journey to Caen started with a struggle to stay on the wrong side of the road whilst we depart l'Harve only to be met by one of the most amazing bridges I have ever driven across. The photo does not give the impression of the true scale of this bridge with its arch rising so high to accommodate the largest ships that enter the Seine estuary. There is a toll, but at 5E 20 its worth not incurring the additional hour of taking the ferry across the Seine down stream.
Finally we made it to our accommodation but we could not check in as we were early so we set out off to the coast and ended up at LUC-s-MER as shown below. We caught our first view of American military but they were not Americans. The Whale was at the Hotel de Villle and the ferry was the 15:00 into Ouistreham.
