JUNE 2nd 2014
As yet I have had no specific indication of what Skippers from Portland will do precisely but what would be appropriate in my opinion is that the Portland Group sail off as a flotilla from Portland. Dean and Readyhoff (Portland Marina) are quite agreeable for boats to berth on the Ist June or before to prep up and be ready to depart on the 2nd of June between 06:00 and 07:00. Their rates are £2.95/meter/day. They will offer discounts depending on numbers. This facility is available for boats coming from the West Country or Portsmouth. Email [email protected]
If a speed of 5 knts across the ground can be maintained then ETA Cherbourg 18:00 to 19:00.
Touchdown and Opus will meet up in Cherbourg as they will already be on the other side of the stream.
VHF Coms Crossing.
Recommended contact made on VHF 16 and switch to one of the following channels.
Channels 8, 72 or 77. Portland Team to dual watch on 72. If 72 is busy go 8 or 77. Boat names can be found under Teams.
ATIS/AIS systems.
All boats with these systems are requested to have them on so that Organisers can track positions. I am not sure about all aspects of these systems but I have a vague understanding that AIS is used to track vessels at sea and ATIS is used on inland waterways. ATIS should not be transmitting once vessel is past low water mark on seaward side.
Finally if departure is delayed due to weather more direct routes may be taken but would involve longer sails.
JUNE 3rd 2014
Depart Cherbourg for Arromanches. ETD 07:00 local time for Arromanches via off shore passage around Barfleur. ETA Arromanches 15:00. Anchor overnight.
JUNE 4th 2014
Depart Arromanches for Ouistreham. The distance from outside Arromanches Harbour exit point to the waiting pontoon is 20 NM. It would be ill advised to cut corners from the TRK shown in the Route Slide Show because of shallows. So allow 4.5 to 5.00 hrs mins to make the crossing. The departure times Arromaches therefore have been put in () against the Lock Times.
Latest arrival times to meet Lock Gates are as follow: 12:15(07:00) 13:45(08:30) 15:30(09:15) 17:15(12:00) and 18:45. Local Time. Dont be late as you may have to tie up on the Waiting pontoon at least 15 minutes before the Lock Closure Times. You may enter the lock on correct light as per ITPS lights. OK to arrive early.
Note: Advise not to use the last time of 18:45 as not sure the full sequence of gate operation. You may get left out and stuck on the waiting pontoon all night or worse. Click to go to Lock Data
Please try to communicate your planned departure time so Ouistreham can be ready.
Planning to have people in Waiting Pontoon Area. Lock area and Marina to assist.
Marina Fees. Skipper responsibilty
VHF Coms Ouistreham
All boats to Dual Watch on CH 16 and 72 when at virtual outer marker 49°21'0.34"N 0°14'23.75"W and report in when at Ouistreham ECP to Julie Marie(Terry Corner) on 72. Then change to 74 and monitor approach Channel. Ouistreham uses channels 12 for the lock and 09 Marina. The port VTS on CH 68. Channel M in the port area but not as an inter-ship channel.
Listen for contact from shore. Maintain Radio Silence to allow port/organisers to control your approach if required. You may use mobiles if required. Call Sign: Julie Marie for Terry Corner, Organisers will try to track approaches and will try to contact as you near the outer marker. If you need to contact another vessel call it on 16 and it should then ask you to change to 77. Return to 16 and 72 dual watch.
JUNE 8th
Depart Ouistreham for Honfleur or return to UK. The route to return to UK could be to Porsthmouth taking up an RNSA mooring then then returning to Portland on 9th of June. Opus and WindHorse going there.

Portsmouth.
They have the option of going via St Vaast or Arromanches or direct to Ouistreham.. M Morgan may go to Arromanches and will stock up at Cherbourg and St Vaast. St Vaast likely to be full so maybe outside Anchorage only.
