4TH JUNE ARRIVAL DAY.(Click on first photo then click on enlargement to go through them. See video below)
We left Bretteville-s-odon around 09:15 and took the Périphérique around the north side of Caen to join the road to Ouistreham at J3. We swung off at Pegasus Bridge so that we could come up the eastern side of the Canal. As soon as we left the ramp we hit a large line of traffic as the bridge was up to let a ship through. We passed the famous Pegasus Bridge cafe to our right which is the home of the Gondree family and was the first house to be liberated in France. As we were early we stopped to look at the Memorial but it was very busy so just looked over the fence.
We finally arrive at Ouistreham to sullen skies and its begining to rain.
THE WAITING PONTOON.
The day is wet windy and cold. The first of todays boats arrive and tie up alongside the waiting pontoon to catch the 12:15 lock access.
Opus makes a dash to get on quick but Windhorse leads the way to the locks. Touchdown just makes it at the end. Apparently the duck on the end of Port Star has travelled many hundreds of miles. We were also joined by the French special forces.

So now the lock gates are open and all sea going boats clear. Lock signals set for entry and we are away. Turn up sound.
